Registration and shopping begin at 9am.
10am Sunday
1. Rhea: Ancient Greek Dance - all levels. Feel the magic of graceful arm movements, fluid weight changes and powerful posturing with these timeless techniques. $18 by 8/3, $20 at the door.
2. Modern Tribal Combos with Lisa Zahiya - intermediate to advanced. Take Tribal to the next level with funky, strong, emotive qualities, and elements of Hip Hop & Latin Dance. Learn to take combos and alter them for different tempos, rhythms, emotions, plus integrating your own moves into Tribal improv. $18 by 8/3, $20 at the door.
11am Sunday
1. LUNCH order forms ($7 from Eddie's Deli) will be collected at 11am sharp. Please pay for and pick up your selection between 1pm to 1:30pm at the front desk.
2. Rhea's Scintillating Greco/Turkish Chiftitelli - all levels. Rhea's exciting signature specialty, intricately broken down, so now it can be your specialty too! $18 by 8/3, $20 at the door.
3. Melina's Zills and Combos - all levels - a rousing array of zill patterns with catchy steps and combos. $18 by 8/3, $20 at the door.
4. Piper: Cane Dance - intermediate to advanced. Technique, steps, and combos for folkloric and modern styles. $18 by 8/3, $20 at the door.
noon Sunday
1. Rhea: Sibek Choreography - all levels. Learn this lively folkloric style (the precursor to Tribal) belly dance from the master herself! $18 by 8/3, $20 at the door.
2. Join Yasmin for her Egyptian Belly Dance Superstars Movie: this two hour multimedia lecture looks at the evolution of Middle Eastern Dance from region to region and across three generations. Through a compilation of images and movie clips, see the difference between Egyptian, Lebanese and Turkish dance and appreciate the finesse of the region's greatest stars, past and present. Learn about Badia Masabni, the origin of veil work, the 19th century Ghawazee and Awalim, Tahia Carioka, Samia Gamal and many others! $20 in advance or at the door - only those preregistered will receive the handouts!
1pm Sunday
1. Piper: American Cabaret Technique and Steps - all levels. This flamboyant, intoxicating, and fluid style was the original fusion belly dance, incorporating elements from professional and folkloric dance styles from through out the Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey, along with an American flair for dynamism and presentation. $18 by 8/3, $20 at the door.
2. Yasmin's Egyptian Belly Dance Superstars Movie/Lecture continues
3. Melina: Floorwork and Balancing - intermediate to advanced. Learn all Melina's tricks for poise, presentation, and powerful performances! Bring knee pads and tube or slouch socks + prop of your choice (or borrow from Melina). $18 by 8/3, $20 at the door.
2pm Sunday
1. Piper's "In the Music" Drum Solo Choreography - intermediate to advanced (beginners are welcome to attend and try their best!). Dynamic and complex, yet flirty and fun. Use the whole choreography for your solos, or just borrow ideas for your own riffs. $18 by 8/3, $20 at the door.
2. Melina's Gypsy/Jazz Combos - all levels. Dionysian energy meets precision technique in Melina's signature style. $18 by 8/3, $20 at the door.
3. Yasmin: the Technique and Steps of Samia Gamal - Samia Gamal was famous during the "Golden Age" of Egyptian dance for her long flowing steps and modern dance kicks. This 2 hour workshop for intermediate to advanced dancers begins with a half hour movie that discusses her life, illustrates many of her signature moves and then breaks each move down into simple to do steps. The remainder of the class time is spent actually doing the moves and correcting technique. $45 by 8/3, $50 at the door. Only pre-registered participants will receive handouts for this workshop!
3pm Sunday
1. Melina's "Mizerlou", with and without Veil - all levels. Melina's latest elegant and fluid choreography to a classic song. $18 by 8/3, $20 at the door.
2. Piper's Stray Cat Strut Choreography - all levels. It's fun, it's sassy, miaow! $18 by 8/3, $20 at the door.
4pm Sunday (hour and a half workshops)
1. Melina's "Whisky Tent Dance" - intermediate to advanced. Back by popular demand! This exciting choreography includes precise drum solo moments, Tunisian hips with turns, dramatic level changes, and more, all to the rousing music of Ali Arsoy. $25 by 8/3, $30 at the door.
2. Dance to your own drummer! Piper teaches Rhea's Sibek Choreography with Instruments - intermediate to advanced. Bring your cymbals, tambourine, and/or dumbek. Drummers should bring scarves to tie drum to shoulder and waist - small or fiberglass drums are recommended. (beginners who attended Rhea's Sibek workshop are welcome to come and try - tambourines are the easiest instrument to dance with, and lots of fun, too!). $25 by 8/3, $30 at the door.
